PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

Know what the route is—and what it is not.

Express Entry is the federal online system used to manage skilled-worker applications under the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program and Federal Skilled Trades Program.

Eligibility for one of those programs comes first. Eligible profiles enter the pool and are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS); an eligible profile is not itself an invitation.

ROUTES AND STATUS

Understand the distinction before choosing.

These routes have different legal outcomes and conditions. The right starting point depends on your facts.

RouteStatusHow it works
Federal Skilled Worker ProgramPermanent residence programFor eligible skilled workers with qualifying experience. Its separate 100-point selection grid uses a 67-point threshold before pool ranking.
Canadian Experience ClassPermanent residence programFor eligible applicants with qualifying skilled work experience in Canada. The 67-point FSW grid does not apply to this class.
Federal Skilled Trades ProgramPermanent residence programFor eligible workers in qualifying skilled trades who meet the program-specific work, language and job-offer or certification rules.
03
ELIGIBILITY

The points we review first.

  • 01

Meet the minimum requirements of the relevant programme, including qualifying work experience and approved language testing.

  • 02

For the Federal Skilled Worker Program, 67/100 selection points may establish eligibility; this is separate from the CRS ranking score.

  • 03

Foreign education may require an Educational Credential Assessment. Settlement funds, admissibility and documents depend on the programme and circumstances.

FEDERAL SKILLED WORKER SELECTION

The 67-point threshold is not CRS.

This table is used only for Federal Skilled Worker Program eligibility. A score of 67 or more may qualify a candidate for that program, subject to its minimum requirements. Eligible Express Entry profiles are then ranked separately using CRS.
